Headaches

Symptom

The headache is often felt at the back of the head and may refer to above an eye. Often described as crushing or a tight band around the head. Relieved by activity and movement, made worse by being sedentary, or on getting up in the morning. In my experience headaches due to a neck problem do not respond to painkillers.

Common Causes

* Headaches are often symptoms of a neck problem. The pain radiates towards the head, most often the back of the skull and over the eyes. The head will ache and often refered pain will move towards the face.. Migraine can be the result of a bad headache in some people. The headache gets worse and triggers a migraine. For some migraine sufferers the treatment is to stop the headache in the first place.

Treatments

* Avoid long periods of sitting.
* Analyse your posture to ensure you are sitting as upright as possible (i.e., not sitting forward in a “hunched” position) - if necessary seeking assistance from an osteopath
* Osteopathic treatment is recommended if movement remains restricted after a few days or if you suffer from bouts of stiffness on a regular or not infrequent basis
